Have you not heard of surrealism? Very popular genre. Its essentially drawings of things that can't happen in reality. Like a levitating flower pot, or you saying something intelligent.

Razourik, the whale pic took probably six or seven hours of real work, but longer to plan out and figure out adjustments. And Gold, I know exactly how you feel. http://www.toxel.com...y-platinum-fmd/ -- just completely demoralized me.

Yeah, duh, I mean that maybe if the whale was beached instead, it would look less like a recoloured picture of a whale in the ocean. And dont say it would be impossible, because you could of copied the original picture of the sea whale, pasted it into photoshop or gm sprite editor, and used "colorize partial" tool. Regardless of that though, the whale picture is very good sway...

Sway, once again I have to say that greeting card image you came up with rocks. Speaking of the text, I was thinking about what you said regarding playing with the colors, and one idea I had was to maybe leave the aurora the way it is with that deep purple color to preserve the look of the original school logo as much as possible, while incorporating more blue into the wording and/or the snowflakes. Like maybe you leave the text itself purple, and recolor the snowflakes to be varying shades of dark blue. Or mix and match, like have some of the snowflakes blue and others purple, or have the "Season's Greetings" text in blue and leave "from Winona State University" in purple, since that's the school's color.
Also, maybe have the snowflakes begin a little higher up over the text, so that they almost start near the top of the treeline. Might give it the appearance that the snowflakes are cascading down from higher up, as snowflakes generally tend to do. Leave the larger flakes lower and keep the smaller ones higher up though; I think that looks really good. I also like the varying levels of opacity for the different flakes. It gives it a neat effect.
Those are just a couple of suggestions, anyway. You're the graphic designer, and again I think the image looks great as-is, so I'm sure whatever you come up with will look awesome.

Thanks also for your suggestions, MoA. I'll definitely consider them should my design get picked and I have a little bit of time to improve things. I adjusted the purple color a little anyway; it was a little too fuchsia for me before.
I'll let you guys know if they put it on their card.

Shot on black and white ISO400 35mm film and developed/enlarged myself using good-old-fashioned chemicals. Some spots are a little hot, and I should have used a higher shutter speed, but I like it.
