Luna[FONT=Arial][COLOR=blue]

Hey everybody!

this is my first post here at Sonic Online.com. i'm pretty much a fanartist when it comes to being a sonic fan, and of course, like pretty much every other fan, i've got my own set of fanchars....this is just one of them--luna. she's my main character, and i just wanted some other opinions on her design, etc. my scanner skewed the colours a little, but otherwise it came out comparatively well...

little explanation about who she is...the role of my characters is that they are Cybrids. my idea--NO STEALING YOU DIE--and basically they are cyborg-hybrids. (in luna's case, she is a fox-hedgehog.) there were originally 1000 of them (no, i didn't design them all), but over time numbers have dwindled for various reasons. they are the creation of eggman--he raised them as flesh-and-blood hybrids from their birth, giving them a special formula to elapse their growth rate, and when the time was right, he added prosthetics to them to enhance performance. these enhancments included both mental and physical aspects. their codenames (eg. ECYBRID-999-SPEED) refer to the order in which they were roboticized (luna was last, 999), and their type (speed, power or fly). each cybrid excels in a particular area (with the exception of one). and, luna just so happens to be the strongest speed type. the "luna" is her codename (which she chose herself). there...is more symbolism behind that as to why i chose it for her but i won't go into that now. i think i've said too much already... ;)

hmm...so that's my whole plot in a nutshell. i've been working on a manga incorporating these characters and so a lot more gets explained and understood there....

critique welcome (good or bad)!!

Welcome to SOL. For some reason, I like the way Luna looks. You really don't hear me saying that I think a fan character looks cool often, so as you may have guessed, I'm impressed. Nice job!

Oh lord, not another fucking hybrid character. It's been done. And just like every other 'fan artist' out there, your story is hackned and clich'ed.

And this is in the wrong forum. Not a good start

I didn't really read that huge paragraph. Only the paragraph before it.

Moved.

Good work with the new style of Sonic art and shading. Really good in fact, but I have to agree that your character and the idea of "cybrids" are not really original enough to justify warning us not to steal. You could have done a sci-fi themed mad libs to arrive at the very standard story.

Also, the way I've always understood it is a manga specifically comes from Japan. You'll be doing a comic.
What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know.

i figured this subject would come up. of course, hybrids are getting overdone in the fanbase. the fanbase is so wide that it's near impossible to be a pioneer in character design. but may i ask why you think my story is "hackned" and "cliche"? just out of curiosity. and i apologize for sending this to the wrong forum--i saw other fan characters here, and so i figured this was the right place.

again, i apologize for sending this picture to the wrong forum. i saw other fan character art here, and so i figured it would be alright. (sorry)

about the comic/manga thing, i never understood that as the stipulation. from what i've learned, the deciding factor between the two is the style. this is because "manga has to come from japan" sounds like more of a racist categorization. at least, in my opinion and from what i've heard.

and thank you for the complements. i've been cultivating the style for a while, now. and as for the story, yes, i do agree that it is very cliche and a mad mix of parts. i have put a lot of thought into the plotline, and especially into developing the character's personalities, and and it's the type of originality i believe in--to take the ideas one likes and combine them. therefore, i thank you for that complement, too.

It's the usual 'genetically engineered by eggman' plot #436

You can actually click multiple quote buttons and you will be able to reply to everyone in one post, which is how we prefer it here.

And I'll give you that there's a certain style to manga vs. most standard comics, but manga literally means "comic pictures," and since that's what you're making in English, you call it a comic book or graphic novel.

Why do most fan characters have to have this 1337 storyline. Can't they just be mostly normal? Have nothing to do with Robotnic (I refuse to say Eggman)? Nice picture. I looked at a few more pictures, and I noticed your fingers seem spread apart too far. Also your legs seem a bit stiff. You have heads down well, although Luna looks like she is chewing on her lip, or something.

Fancharacters are overrated, anyway. Original characters and plotlines, that's where it's at.

Can't play god in someone else's world. But, now I'm just splitting hairs. I'll stop, now.

i have actually never heard that plot before...maybe once or twice, and even then it was only like, one character. never in such a grand-scale as i've created.

I think we can generalize and just say 'Created/Modified by Robotnic'. I'd say that covers 25% of fan characters.

Actually, I don't see alot of Robotnik modifications in fancharacters. I see DBZ-like powers, Shadow-esque connections with the Chaos Emeralds, tragic pasts, siblings, Hot Topic pants, and swords.

wow--is this a defense? if so, thank you. yep--i agree. this is pretty much what i see in the fanbase...along with "sonic's best friend" or "tails' first cousin twice removed" or "rouge's daughter". i think that "eggman modifications"are actually more fewer and far between. (and may i note that i created the plotline, characters, etc. before i became a net-member of the fanbase? therefore, i would never have known about fancharacter designs and such.) and in terms of personality, the base has run amok with euphoric girly-girls or broody guys. just my opinion, of course. and then again, i am the noob-on-trial here, so i guess shouldn't be shooting my mouth off so much...erm...*backs offstage*

Nah, you're not a noob. Now "tails' first cousin twice removed" and "rouge's daughter" are some things I've never really heard of.
