I'm not even that big of a Futurama fan, and this all sounds pretty awesome to me.  Again, I just really hope the new episodes don't suck, or that they pull a Family Guy and suck at first and then get better again, since 22 episodes isn't much time to pull out of suck territory.

Family Guy didn't get better, MoA, I'm sorry. :(

The difference between Futurama and Family Guy is that Futurama relies on character and situational humor much more than Family Guy, whose humor is mostly based on "Remember that time when... [cutaway having nothing to do with anything]," and "Remember this thing from the 80's? We do too!" With everyone returning and with a lot of unused ideas still waiting to be used, I can only see this going well.
What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know.

Well, that's the difference between our tastes in humor, I guess. Me, I like the random gags and esoteric pop culture references in Family Guy. It's just fun, silly comedy and it makes me laugh. And while I have nothing against Futurama, I was a little disappointed with the approach the writers took later on in the series where more and more of the humor starting coming from in-jokes and ironic observations about the cast. The show still ended on a good note in my opinion, but then the Simpsons continued on and picked up those same trends only to amplify them by a thousand, and now 98% of the "jokes" on the show are a case of "Yeah, we know that line wasn't funny at all, but the fact that Krusty said it makes it funny! ...Right?"

I'll take mindless gag humor and ridiculous absurdity over stale situational comedy that fails to deliver a punch line any day. I just hope that, upon Futurama's return, the writing staff remembers how to deliver that quieter, more "dignified" brand of comedy and actually make it funny.

Simpsons and Futurama don't have the same staff, though. The start of Futurama directly coincides with the drop in quality on The Simpsons. This is the same reason American Dad is funny in my opinion but Family Guy is just sort of okay. New show brings over all the best talent from the old show and the creator loses focus (plus the fact that there's only so many situations characters can get into). Family Guy went too far with their style of humor just as you say the Simpsons have gone too far with theirs.

Ah, forget it, this is dumb to argue about. Futurama could very well have a shitty return. We'll just wait until it comes out.

Isn't that what Family Guy does, constantly, with Stewie now? "Ohmigawd, Stewie talked like normal people, but in his funny voice!" I mean, damn, half his lines now have him talking either like a college dropout or a thug, but still in that sophisticated voice.

I admit that the writers do jump on the 'have Stewie say random stuff for comedy' train a little more often than they should, but at least they confine that tendency to one character and not the show's entire cast.

For the sake of getting this biatch back on topic though, here's an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming episodes of Futurama I got from a totally reliable source:

It comes back right on my birthday.

This is cool. I'm just gonna wait until they all come out on television, though.

Nice, we need some new episodes.

And reading the original post, it said Futurama has 72 episodes. I think thats a lie. Judging on how many reruns a week Adult Swim runs, they have less than 25
