This is a rich text editor made in Macromedia Flash that will be incorporated into the forums and other sections of the site when it's ready. It will change to add numbered list support, some kind of image support, and smiley support, and also a nice scrollbar, but this is pretty much what it's gonna be like. Any comments?

I would also like to state that the reason this was done in Flash rather than using web browser's built-in controls (I'm sure you've seen those around) is because it allows for maximum compatibility. This one will work on Mac and Linux and on browsers that aren't the latest and greatest. Also faster than a Java applet.

Well, I have a word-processing program that can save plain text files (.txt) and rich text files (.rtf). Who needs a rich text editor?

I'm happy with my offline text program, so I can type stories without tying up the phone lines. Of course, I have an earthlink.net connection, so I don't tie up the phone lines now...

Basically:
A word processor is all good and well for doing stuff offline, but what if, on a website article posting system, or message board, you want bold text for example? Sure you can type [ b ] text [/ b]
or you can use the new system where you just highlight text and press a button. The screen displays that text as bold while you are editing the content, rather than seeing [b ] my text[/ b]. then you press save (or whatever) and you're done.
There's no way you can copy something you've written offline, and post it online while retaining all the formatting. This system at least allows you the majority of formatting you'd get if you wrote it offline.
