PS3 HDD SOLD SEPARATELY???

Japanese publication reports that a hard drive will be shipped separately from the PlayStation3...

Japanese publication Famitsu has claimed that the PlayStation3 hard-drive won’t be shipped with the console, although official confirmation from Sony is yet to be made.

As we previously reported in early June, Sony is yet to finalise a decision on the console’s HDD, which the company has suggested may have up to an 80GB capacity. However, with recent estimates that the production costs of the PS3 may hit £271 without the addition of the HDD, the Famitsu report does seem likely.

We’ll bring you the official decision when an announcement is made shortly...

This puts a big dent in my enthusiasm for the console.

It doesn't suprise me. If the machine is all that it's cracked up to be, then of course it's going to have huge production costs.

I bet that they'll just release a version with an HDD, and one without.
I'm just asking for trouble, aren't I?

I think this stinks, I really wish that I could afford a PS3 and a harddrive so I could continue playing Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes.

Maybe if I could work at McDonald's? hmm..

I don't give a damn about the PS3, all I'm getting is the Revolution, because the other 2 systems are WAY too expensive. The Revoution is the onlyone worth it. I mean really, over $400 for better graphics.....

I agree. I've said it before, but the gaming companies just totally overestimate the amount of money that their average customer has to spend on luxuries like video games. Hell, I know people (avid gamers no less) who are still waiting for the prices to come down on the GC/PS2/X-Box because they simply can't afford them. Unless the companies drop the prices on these new consoles very soon after launch, I have a feeling as though all three of them are going to lose money.

Oh and Fonz, become a male prostitute. It pays very well. Just ask Jin.

In my opinion, they're not worth it, either.

That being said, I don't blame the gaming companies. These things are expensive to produce. They're losing money on each one as is. Yeah, they could just wait longer for software sales to bring profit, but stockholders won't stand for huge losses for a few quarters waiting for profit. There are enough spoiled kids out there and people with a little money to burn to enable them to buy systems this expensive, otherwise gaming companies wouldn't do it.

The solution, of course, is to scale back the hardware, but if one company does that and the others don't, well, developers will want a system that enables them to do more things, and consumers will discern a difference in quality that will eventually catch up to them, and it'd just be a big mess, really. So they have to sell them at these prices, until supply and demand and production costs both say otherwise.

Also Fonz, if you get a sex change, you can make that much more as a prostitute.
What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know.
