Lately, I and many others have noticed quite an influx of terrible posts. It's just bad. They're total spam, they're flames, and they're flat-out idiocy in most cases. And you know who you are, posting these. It's mostly new, possibly "tough guy" members, but some vets are getting pulled in, too.

Look, I don't want to be a hard-ass administrator. I want to be your pal. I want to have fun with you. I don't mind going off-topic for an interesting conversation or joke, and I do it quite a bit myself, because conversations are dynamic. I like to cut you guys slack if you broke a rule that was no big deal. I'm not your parent, so why act that way? But what has been going on lately is really starting to hurt the community. Topics have to be moved everywhere, conversations go off in wild, fucking stupid tangents, there are horrible topics to begin with, there is a ton of double posting, there are people flat-out refusing to use proper grammar, and everything is going to hell.

Something needs to be done. We're going to have to run a much tighter ship for the time being. So starting now, you can be punished for stupid or bad posting. Yep, if your post does not meet certain quality standards -- if it's stupid and unfunny, if it's total spam, if the grammar is really awful, etc. -- something gonna happen to you. Sure, before we would berate you, possibly warn you depending on what you did, but we're really getting tough now:

• Smartass posts and intentionally inflammatory posts will net you a 48 hour posting suspension.
  
• Posts with terrible grammar (unless joking) will result in a 72 hour posting suspension.
  
• Double posting without reason will result in a 24 hour posting suspension. For every subsequent post in a row, another day will be added (ex. triple posting results in a 48 hour suspension, quadruple posting is 72 hours, etc.).
  
• Horrible topics will be closed on sight and your posting rights will be suspended 48 hours.
  
• Total spam with no value whatsoever will get your posting rights revoked for 96 hours.
  
• Any other kind of shitty posting we see will result in a 48 hour posting suspension, or more if needed. If we don't like it, tough for you I guess.
  
• Multiple infractions will result in a long suspension or permanent ban -- three strikes and you're out, no questions. Those of you who have already been warned a fair amount of times probably only have one strike left.
  
• We reserve the right to edit any of your posts to add insulting phrases to you in big red letters.
  
• Any attempts to circumvent a suspension will get you banned permanently.
  
• PMing me is not going to help.

So before you post, you have to ask yourself, "Is this going to add value to the topic or forum? Does it provide information, is it particularly interesting for funny, or does it help someone?" If you can't say "yes" to any of that, DON'T POST IT, because you will regret it later (or not, whatever).

I'm not sure if this is going to be temporary or stay in place forever. Certainly we'll cut people some slack after a while, because we all make shitty posts from time to time, but I like the idea of some kind of quality control. For the time being, we're going to be tough on bad posting. Feel free to report bad posts for some of the less popular topics, but don't go crazy, we almost always check every post made here.

I got no problems with this whatsoever. In fact, I think the institution of a more zero-tolerance approach to post moderation is a little bit overdo around here. Sometimes you've just gotta stand up and say, "Enough of the bullshit." It's all about respect.

It was a guideline, really. "Try to do this." Breaking it usually resulted in it the topic being closed or the post... berated, I guess, and possibly a warning point depending on the circumstances.

I think, to avoid having to waste your divine time warning n00bs on a constant basis, you should make a forum specifically for spamming. Like at The Fallout Shelter. They have a forum that lets anyone post anything, but it also doesnt increase post count.

Just a suggestion.
