Am I the only one that likes my little thing? Okay, it is bad for a hoax, I couldn't find a Heroes HUD and Espio's words should be like the captions in the game but didn't do that either, and Espeon should have a shadow... I rushed it... but I personally thought this was hilarious, and it took me a very long time to edit out the robot and try to fix the background:

But well, I've searched for Sonic Heroes screenshots... and I can't seem to find any with the scores, time stuff on it, and I don't know which font to use if I do a Heroes-like caption... The shadow probably would take a little work, but not beyond what I could probably do.

I've seen some ones with the HUD, but let me tell you, you're going to have a tough time transferring them over, with the semitransparency and blurring of the lines thanks to JPEG compression and things like that. I personally don't think you even need a HUD, as evidenced by the fact that this clearly is a story sequence and not in-game (no other characters around, odd angle, etc.). If you really want a HUD, I reckon I could fake one for you in a very convincing manner, but if I were you I'd concentrate more on lighting, shadow, and especially smoothing out the exclamation bubble, and from there finding the right font should be no problem.
What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know.

Well, I did try a shadow using sheering, perspective and transparancy, the GIMP's shadow maker wasn't giving me a "pixelated" shadow that I needed... this was the best I could do, should there be different lighting too?

Anyway Sway, you can still do that HUD, the font for the captions appears to me to be Ariel or something very, very close, but the GIMP is doing that thing again where it crashes if you go to certain areas of the font selection dialouge... so I'm downloading a different version to see if that's better...

Look above... Ariel font, definatly very close to or actually the font they used in Sonic Heroes, Espeon shadow changed, still didn't like the angle, and bubble text changed and smoothed out. But Sonic Vegemite people still want a HUD...

I think the shadow should be shorter for sure, but it looks good. Espio's shadow does not stretch back like it seems you believe it to do, but is almost directly under him, so the Esperon's should be the about same. Lighting is okay, but it's not quite as hard as Espio's. Also there are some white artifacts around that Espeon. I'd also pick a font more similar to the exclamation point in Sonic Heroes for the speech bubble, but that's totally up to you.
I'll have a finished HUD by Wednesday or Thursday for sure if you can wait. It should be fairly simple but might take time to get just perfect, and I don't have a lot of that until later on in the week.
Also if Arial is not the exact font, I'd bet money on Helvetica. Oh one more thing, "mispronounced" only has one "s".

Yeah... anyway I made a couple of those changes and changed the wording, someone else told me that "Prepare to die" was kind of stupid... also changed the shadow yet again, and changed the lighting on Espeon because well it's a beach and more light should be falling on it.
Edit: heh, I tried to upload the new version, but forgot that I really didn't save it in png form yet... anyway whatever... also I downloaded GIMP prerelease 2.2... hey, it doesn't crash on you when you look at the font dialouge! It's described as the unstable version but seems more stable than the other one to me anyway I also don't have the font Helvennia, but I think Ariel is close enough.
