Well, after we got a bump of Movies 2010 it put me in the mood to create an altogether more relevant and up to date topic. It looks like 2012 could go either way for movies. We have The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, the first of the Spiderman reboot. There is going to be a lot of big titles but that always leaves us the question: will they live up to the hype?
Which movie are you most looking forward to this year? For me, it has to be this:
Peter Jackson made three beautiful looking movies with The Lord of the Rings, and I really hope he is set to create similar masterpieces. Although I am a little bit concerned that The Hobbit novel gives far less content to adapt for a film, the trailer has every box checked for a good film.

From the looks of the Hobbit trailer, he's done a really great job of capturing the feel of the original, while injecting it with some of the lighthearted feel of "There and Back Again". I'm definitely looking forward to that one, and don't doubt that it will be incredible.
While I would normally say that my most anticipated film of the year is The Dark Knight Rises, I'm afraid that The Avengers beats it out. One of my favorite writers/directors, Joss Whedon, handling some of my favorite superheros? I'll probably exit the theater and turn around and see it again immediately.
In addendum, I also can't wait to get to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I know it had a limited release last year, but it hasn't come to my kneck of the woods yet, so I'm counting it as a 2012 film.

I feel especially happy they used Nine Inch Nails as the music for the trailer. It looks like it is going to kick ass.

I saw an interesting story a while back (I'd link to it, but I'm currently in lazy, off-work mode) where Joss answered speculation that Hawkeye and Black Widow would be a romantic item in the film. His response (paraphrased): "I have too many goddamn characters, fight scenes, and explosions in this film for that."
That alone sealed the deal for me. It's gonna be wonderful.
