E3 what are your thoughts?

Nintendo usually does better than rest. Nintendo has the best first party support while Sony and Microsoft (though Microsoft a little less) gets all the "wow!" from their third party support.

I'm just personally sick of Nintendo creating consoles held up by a gimmick. Just make a nice, decently-powered console with a controller that's easy to hold. Then start making games that are playable and have a fun, engaging story. You'll have my money every time. I don't need touch screens or motion sensors or vitality shit. Just give me a damn video game.

They have been delivering on games, not so much story, but honestly that's not Nintendo. Why not add a gimmick to the mix?
I want a 3DS so bad now. The game lineup is totally sex.
Arkham City is also looking fantastical.
Elder Scrolls Skyrim has peaked my interest, as all Elder Scroll games do. I hope I don't get disinterested in it's too open worldiness.

I know I'm gonna bitched at and accused of Nintendo Hatin' and whatever, but I am just not on board with the WiiU. The traditional buttons/touch screen/motion controller looks like a confusing mess of a thing that will only bewilder and frighten the grandparents and little kids Nintendo tried so hard to win over with the super casual-friendly Wii, dissolving all interest by the company's target market. I suppose this could be Nintendo attempting to target the hardcore crowd, but damn, they'd better line up something better than a shitload of ports from systems that "serious" gamers already own.
Speaking of ports, I'm also worried about the hardware of the system only being roughly on par with the PS3 and 360 in terms of power. Nintendo is basically showing up late to the party here, and it's entirely possible that Sony and Microsoft will move onto their own next generation of systems as early as next year. Once that happens, the WiiU won't even be able to siphon good titles from the other two systems since all the big developers will be moving onto the PS4 and 360-2 or whatever. Nintendo will once again be forced to keep their console alive solely with first party titles. Which, if their E3 showing is at all indicative of the future, will be an endless parade of Mario and Zelda titles without a single new IP in sight.
I can appreciate Nintendo doing something different from their competitors, but right now the WiiU looks like more gimmicky bullshit that doesn't actually offer any real ground-breaking innovation. The Wii didn't change the way we played video games; it merely changed the kind of peripherals we used to play certain genres of games. How is the WiiU not doing the exact same thing? A Nintendo console with a dumb gimmick, awkward controller, and inferior hardware is something I've already done and do not intend to do again.
Now, I'm not condemning the WiiU in the sense that I've totally written it off or anything—it's still way, way too early to make a final judgment, and Nintendo could wind up surprising me with this thing. All I'm saying is that, based on everything we've been shown so far, I'm not the least bit impressed yet.

Hey kids, remember to drink your drugs, stay in milk, and don't do school!

The thing that's pissing me off most is that they're claiming it's got the same potential for multiplayer as the other systems when that's clearly bullshit for two reasons:
1) For local multiplayer the system only supports one WiiU controller per system. The other players have to use standard Wii controllers.
2) Online infrastructure must be supplied by the company releasing the game, Nintendo won't offer any to any nontendo games.
Yeah, nice job there guys. I'm sure your systems gonna be a hit with bullshit like that.

I am personally excited about a HD Nintendo system simply because I like the parade of Mario and Zelda games (more so than Dead Space or CoD or whatever real gaming is supposed to be), and why not be in HD? But I get what you're saying (somewhat, let's agree to disagree on other things), except for the part where a touchscreen is going to scare off little kids. Based on my own experience as a kid (Which I still am, legally, for a year), a controller like that would make it an instant Christmas or birthday wish.
Ain't nothin' but a thang...
