Up until now, I think we've seen nothing more than rumors of a successor to the Wii, press releases that hinted at a successor, and wish lists detailing what people felt the Wii could've done better or should've done in the first place.
This time, Nintendo itself confirms it. In 2012, there will be a new console, and it's being revealed in June, at E3. So, in other words, Nintendo's probably going to "win" E3 this year as well.

Sony and Microsoft are the only companies to have released new versions of their home consoles that were more than just color alterations. I doubt that's going to change.
New version of the Wii or not, this thing is kicking off the next generation. Very early.

I know how many years each generation tends to last. By early, I mean that Nintendo is (presumably) doing this much sooner than Microsoft and Sony.
I think it'd probably be better this way. If Nintendo is going to improve upon features that Sony and Microsoft are doing better (mainly online play, HDD space, more disc space, firmware for games, and better third party support) while offering new ways to play, then I'll be happy.
I'm glad Sony and Microsoft aren't making new consoles and insteadrereleased the Wiimote Move and the EyeToy Kinect (even if I don't think Kinect looks like it'd work best as a gaming accessory). I can't see them improving on much without things becoming even more costly and taking longer to complete. The graphics, storage, and online are good enough. Focus needs to be directed at improving gameplay and new innovations.
We also need to get rid of this sickening notion that games should be as movie-like as possible that some people seem to hold. Oh, and while I feel that multiplayer is very important, single player gameplay needs more love; Some insane people would tell you that single player doesn't matter at all anymore.

I think Nintendo took the focus of single player to far though, and while they made great single player games, their multiplayer suffered horribly. It felt (to me)like they refused to move with times. I also believe co-op as the best of both worlds, and we should be putting a good chunk of focus into that as well.
