Although there were problems with it, another thing I really liked that the game did was allow you to aim into the background since it was in 3D. Hell, come to think of it, if it were better done, I think they could've come up with some interesting ways to explore the world by interacting with certain things in the background.

I disagree with this. The whole "aim into the background" thing was done just enough with a handful of three-dimensional fights, the gun turret segments, and the end battle where you have to shoot down the airship. If they had made you interact with the background any more than they did or create puzzles involving the BG, it just would have been obnoxious.

Anyway, this doesn't really have anything to do with Other M. My point in mentioning SC is that it's possible to create a next-gen Metroid (or Metroid-esque) title that stays true to the original games and still does something new and interesting without completely reworking the formula. If Nintendo really wanted to collaborate with Team Ninja and make a sci-fi multi-perspective action game that has a talkative female protagonist and a longwinded backstory, then fine. But why did they have to call it a Metroid game? This is just a largely unrelated and highly experimental title that's using the Metroid brand name to sell more copies. That's why I'm worried this game is going to suck, and I think Sway and Muzzy are in the same boat for the most part.

You know me, MoA. I loathe newness and change. In fact, I think I'm going to finish the last of these cans of Natural Ice, then go smack Super Metroid's dick into the dirt for old time's sake.

My guess is that no one here has seen all the gameplay videos, including those on the showroom floor.

The game isn't as "on rails" as everyone thought. You don't just simply shoot into the background, you can move around in 3 dimensions.

Well, you guessed wrong. You do realize we were talking about Shadow Complex, right? Did you not read the conversation?

As for the gameplay footage, I think I've seen everything released so far. The newest trailer showed at E3 didn't have any actual story segments in it at all and I think the reason for that was to help put the fans' minds at ease because most of what they saw before were the beginning story sequences and Samus beating the shit out of enemies in ways she hadn't before.

You guys jacked the topic and turned it into SC. I brought it back.

I'm not talking about the trailers. I'm talking about actual gameplay recorded by fans playing the actual demo.

You do realize that, unless you were misunderstanding us about which game we were talking about at the time, your previous post makes no sense, right? There was absolutely no reason to assume that we thought what you thought we did unless you mistook us talking about Other M instead of Shadow Complex.

As for turning the topic into a Shadow Complex topic, that didn't happen. AFTER brought it up to talk about what he believed a next-gen Metroidvania should be like and, for one post, I went off on a tangent about what I thought about SC's gameplay.

Who said I only saw the trailers? I said gameplay footage, not specifically trailers. I don't see why it would make any difference in what you were talking about, though, because even the earliest trailer showed that you moved around in 3D. In fact, the talk about the 2D gameplay didn't even surface until later.

Haha, well, they managed to cram a ton of shit into Fusion. And it was shit.

Lolwut? I would have to disagree with this statement. Fusion isn't really an adventure game, it's story is a little bland, and it's far more action oriented than other Metroids...

But, it's easily one of the best action titles on the GBA and has a couple of the most fun boss battles in the entire series so I don't know what you're talking about.

Is it a Metroidvania game? Not really, but it's still a damn well built game.

I'd say it's a Metroidvania in the sense that exploration is still a big factor in the game. It's just that it's much more linear than the other titles.

This video temporarily scared the shit out of me when I saw it a minute ago. Right now, I'm still clinging to that hope based on previously posted reasons. I really hope most of this is just taking place at the beginning of the game or are spread throughout the game enough to the point where it won't seem like you're working with these dudes most of the time. What's making this easier to deal with is that Corruption did something similar before it came out, but with this, it seems like it's happening at various points in the game.

I find it kinda strange that the US didn't get this video in English. Makes me wonder if they're trying to market the game to the Japanese fans in a completely different manner than they are to the US fans considering that our latest trailer shows absolutely no story segments whatsoever.

Edit:

Oh, and I forgot to say that the gameplay still looks pretty fun and I love how they were able to implement the shinespark into a 3D environment.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the gameplay and the overall experience (insert usual criticisms about the linearity and suit here though), I'm saying the "cutscenes" and dialogues/monologues were shit. And a ton of it.

Love the physics, love the controls, like most of the bosses, don't like the stoppage in play for story.

Ah, point noted. Honestly I never really had a problem with it, but Alien is one of my favorite movies of all time which Fusion draws heavily from, and I've always had a "stop following orders whenever it's convenient" mentality so that's to be expected. I didn't think it was great, but it didn't really hurt the game for me and I felt the atmosphere it gave off was really good. Also probably has something to do with the fact that my early childhood gaming experience started on SMB, Ninja Gaiden, Megaman, and Castlevania which are the first four games I played, in that order. I've always been geared towards a more Stage -> Interlude -> Stage mentality.

I actually really liked the Fusion Suit design to stomp on your other complaint though. The organic look with the lack of joint pieces just looked really cool to me, and I loved how streamlined and curvy it looked in comparison to the other suits. I love all the suit designs, but I played Prime before Fusion so I was glad when I got something new that wasn't just another pallet swap of the Varia suit with it's goofy shoulder pads no matter how cool the glowing red lines looked. Also, the Dark suit is a poor man's Phazon suit, the Light suit reminds me of that Bionicle crap my cousin used to have, and the PED... actually I really like the PED with it's less goofy shoulders, and badass hyper mode.

Uncorrupted PED, the ever classic Varia, and the starting Fusion are probably my top three suits in that order.

Did you just call the Dark Suit "a poor man's Phazon Suit"?! Psh, whatever. I don't even know how the hell you came to that conclusion. Design-wise, it looks absolutely nothing like the other suits, and function-wise, it does the same thing every other suit upgrade tends to do (defense +50%, protection from a certain environment, although not absolute in this case). The Dark Suit has my favorite design out of every suit Samus has been in and I never understood why nobody ever liked it.

I've never disliked the way any of Samus' suits looked, by the way.

This isn't just my weird opinion or something, it's a pretty strong majority that think it looks like Samus fell into some Nickelodeon GakĀ®. It's really gaudy and the whole idea is so terrible that they only make prequels to Fusion now.

The Fusion suit was pretty neat, but they could have adapted something a little more to it, like a slightly altered design for each upgrade, rather than the standard color swap, kinda like the transition from Power Suit to Chozo Armor ala Zero mission, being that the Fusion Suit is more organic than her normal suit.

I haven't actually heard any complaints about the way the normal Fusion Suit looked until you.

Oh, you mean the boring gray and dull brown looks good when compared to the sharp jet black and glowing neon red shit? It's design is different, but there's no fucking way they were designing the game and didn't go "Shit, we already used the only good color scheme for a Dark Suit in the last game. Oh well, guess we'll make it look stupid."

Also, why do the shoulder pads look like fucking discs? I mean seriously, the regular shoulder pads may mess with her fucking anatomy to hell and back but at least they only look goofy and not just plain out stupid.

I can't tell when certain things look awesome.

This is how I read this post.

Since this is just a matter of preference, I'm not going to argue about whether or not the Dark Suit looks awesome.

I really want to see Pimp Suit Samus, but Nintendo will never do it because they're pussies.

I dunno. I'm just saying that the Phazon Suit is a better design for the Dark Suit than the Dark Suit itself but it's okay for him to disagree I guess. I don't dislike the Dark Suit, like I said there's not a single suit I don't like, but I do feel it's one of the weaker ones along with the Light Suit. PED's the best overall though so whatever.

I really can't describe why I love the way the Dark Suit looks and think of it as the coolest looking suit. Like I said, it's all just a matter of preference, which is why I really don't wanna talk about which suit is the best looking.

Well, if you're an idiot, you can think I am... Do you really want me to think of you as an idiot from now on, Gold? You know, it's strange, but I think I ended up saying something similar to you when we were on MSN a few weeks ago...

Back to Other M: Yesterday, I forgot to post that I feel like a damned moron for not realizing that the entire game takes place on that Bottle Ship. I didn't even realize that it was supposed to be somewhat like the BSL from Fusion until I saw a holographic environment pop up in that trailer. It's strange, you'd think I'd've read something about that by now or at least remembered it if I did.
