If they had made you interact with the background any more than they did or create puzzles involving the BG, it just would have been obnoxious.
Anyway, this doesn't really have anything to do with Other M. My point in mentioning SC is that it's possible to create a next-gen Metroid (or Metroid-esque) title that stays true to the original games and still does something new and interesting without completely reworking the formula. If Nintendo really wanted to collaborate with Team Ninja and make a sci-fi multi-perspective action game that has a talkative female protagonist and a longwinded backstory, then fine. But why did they have to call it a Metroid game? This is just a largely unrelated and highly experimental title that's using the Metroid brand name to sell more copies. That's why I'm worried this game is going to suck, and I think Sway and Muzzy are in the same boat for the most part.
