The rain pounded on the leaves, raising a deafening but annoying sound of popping popcorn. The endless thunder boomed so loud I barely even noticed the noise the rain was making as I stared out at the storm. I’ve never seen the sky so black, and if it weren’t for the occasional blast of lighting, I would swear a black hole swallowed up all the scenery around me. A soaked leaf flew in through an open window a slapped me on the face, and I closed it, annoyed.
I am glad I am not out there. I thought, casting one last glance out at the violent storm. I thought of all those aliens, soaked to the skin out there, and I shook away my pity.
They rule the entire planet. They can be as soaked as they want and nothing will drown their joy. I thought, casually trotting away from the window.
Five years passed since those black creatures first arrived, and I remembered it all as if the moment never passed.
Black Doom tried to use me to help him with that invasion, but I only serve myself. Thanks to that thinking, I found the truth, that I was an android, created by Eggman, along with the rest of them. My vow to rule still rung as clear as a pool in my head, but with it came a shower of doubt. Was I really just a robot among thousands of others exactly like me? Not meant to feel anything?
I heard footsteps at the entrance, and I whipped around. A shadow android clumsily walked into the entrance, much smaller and weaker then me. That made me feel a bit better.
“Shadow, you have visitors.” The android squeaked in a sarcastic tone.
“Send them in.” I ordered, hiding the suspicion from my voice.
Usually the androids bowed and called me ‘king’, even though I never instructed them to. That was so tacky, it’s even tacky to even use that word.
But that sarcasm… that was something I did mind. Usually I would kick them into the mud for that, but an instinct inside me told me to save my energy for something more important.
I waited patiently for the ‘visitors’, and I finally heard a raspy voice and a cry of pain.
That cry sounds familiar.. I thought, but I stamped out the thought, marking it as unimportant.
Androids and my second in command, Omega, circled a large group of poor souls, they obviously been in the rain.
When the androids broke up to give them more space, I could regonize who they were under all that mud.
It was Sonic and his friends.
I turned to Omega for an explanation.
“Shadow.. these intruders, were spotted.. on our land.” Omega explained in his slow, robotic voice that I had gotten used to.
“What?” I snapped in outrage and whipped my head to Sonic. Sonic flinch under my furious glare, and even that unnerved me.
“The aliens wiped out everything, your land is the only place where we can hold a safehouse...” Sonic explained in a quiet, tired voice.
“There would be more if there was help..” Sonic added bitterly, facing me with a nasty glare that didn’t match the defeated expressions of his companions.
My pity for Sonic was gone as quick as lightning.
“I have my own empire to run, without you gnats to put up with. How pathetic, your to insecure about your power to even ask me..” I never finished mocking them, for Sonic rushed me, screaming in rage.
I punched him in the head with ease, and he collapsed, and androids immediately pinned him down.
Sonic wasn’t nearly as fast as he was before; life on the lamb had obviously taken its toll.
I marched toward the pinned Sonic and bent over him, hate radiating off me.
“You have no right to boss me around like this. You were always the runt, and always have. Only now can you realize it though your thick skull.” I snarled at him before stepping away.
“Escort them out of our land, and make sure they don’t come back.” I ordered coldly. I ignored the pleading look from Amy, even though it haunted me, reminding me of somebody.
The androids hesitated, string at each other as if saying, Why do we have to do it?
“Now!” I roared impatiently, and they were quickly back outside, except Omega.
“The Android’s… are slowly leasing… quality in work.” Omega pointed out the obvious.
“Something is going on behind my back.” I growled furiously, retreating from the throne room.
