I'm creating a sprite sheet of my character Stratus Wind using Daniel Sydney's Sonic the Hedgehog sprite sheet of he ripped from Sonic Advance. This is an open project. If anyone would like to help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

First off, let me start by saying the sprites you have made are perfect in my sight... I wish I could help, but I suck at spriting things ;p . Anyway, I hope that someone will help you... ;l

Sonicfang, I have been keeping an eye on you for a while now, and after seeing your post here just now, I've had enough. I don't know if you're just trying to be nice or polite or whatever, but you are incapable of providing even the slightest bit of proper criticism. Whether it be sprites or fanfics, no matter how bad something is, you never fail to show up and praise it like it was a bloody work of art.

These sprites are by no means "perfect." Every edited sprite is just a recolor with a cut/paste of Super Sonic's head. Nothing about it is unique, original or special. I have been spriting for many years, and I started out the same way, but the PROPER, HARSH criticism that I got made me want to get better, and I did.

If you gave a damn about anyone that posts fan-made content on this board, you'd be honest with them. However, to do even THAT right, you need to know what the HELL you're talking about.

This especially goes for all your comments on fics people post. I am developing a NOVEL which I hope to get PUBLISHED one day, so I can point out every amateur mistake made in every fic posted.

For one, they need proper grammar and punctualtion, so they aren't a chore to read.

Second, there needs to be original, thought-out content that has deeper development than just "I like this, so I'll add it!" This includes character names, backstory and plot. Stop having every character have some connection to the ARK or Shadow! And stop half-assing/not including any kind of intro to the story or fan characters involved!

Third, fan characters should never steal all the spotlight from the main characters (this only applies to any fic involving the official cast). They should also NOT be made super-powerful, and should never be stronger/needlessly stronger than any of the official cast that may/may not be involved. A character that has nothing to overcome and can do everything immediately is boring and entirely uninteresting.

Fourth, make the damn fan character something more unique than the overdone hedgehog/echidna/fox/nonsensical hybrib. It's like you people don't know about any other animal in the world. Make something that hasn't been made, or is less commonly seen, not something that would be the easiest to edit/recolor for sprites.

Fifth, if you choose to alter any established personalities of the official cast, do so within reason, and don't deviate from what makes them who they are. Sonic is neither a coward nor a man-whore, Knuckles isn't a genius mechanic, and Tails isn't a playboy.

And finally, stop drowning the story with ridiculous, unnecessary clichés, especially if you can't even pull them off in a way that makes them worth using in the first place!

Oh yes, let's wait two months before replying to him in a relatively unrelated topic, good job Gold.

However, he is right about the sprite sheet sucking. Don't get me wrong, we're not saying you didn't try, but spriting is A LOT of work, and you have to start somewhere. Just make sure you eventually move on from recolors and minor alterations. Everyone starts by recoloring something, but with the exception of fang here we aren't going to go and tell you it's perfect, or even good. I'm telling it like it is, it's your first attempt, and that's fine, but make sure it's a stepping stone and not your magnum opus, you get it?

I don't often venture into this section anymore. I came upon it by chance, and I felt obligated to say what needed to be said.

You know what, you guys are right. But my cousin scraped this project like a week after I posted here. He's seven and just started spriting when I posted here and he was hoping a veteran would help him. He wanted to make me a present or something because I helped him when his father was shot and killed. I thought it was pretty nice of him, though I didn't realize people would actually get angry about virtually nothing. This sprite sheet terrible but, come on, he's only 7. But whatever. I just don't think its worth it to be angry over something like this. No offense.

I wasn't angry over the sheet, persay. I was angry over the blatant lack of proper constructive criticism. I've had my old work torn apart, and I got better because of the advice I got. You simply cannot improve if no one ever helps you understand what you did wrong. You got blind, mindless praise, and I offered some advice in that wall of anger I left for Sonicfang. I'm all for helping you or your cousin improve, but that nonsense Sonicfang left is simply unacceptable.
