Funny that you bring this up because, just this morning, I was thinking about what MUGEN would be like with online capabilities. Kinda sucks that it still doesn't, though. I'll go ahead and give it a download. I seriously need to get back into it if I'm ever gonna get used to playing traditional 2D fighters. It's a good thing I still have everything I used with the old game! Hopefully, it all still works...

I'm surprised that Elecbyte has it's own website and even their own forums now, too! They've been missing from the scene for how long, again?

Dude, that is totally kick ass. I wonder what they plan for in the future.

This Release Candidate is supposedly for the last one they're making compatible with old stuff right? I'm more excited about what they're doing next, because they have so many opportunities by completely re-doing it.

Maybe a character designer/editor mode with full GUI? That would be useful for those of us that would like to make characters but loathe typing commands we barely understand on a text sheet. I can do it, but it's practically the bane of my existence, I'm more of a story-board/design kind of guy than a coding kind of guy, even MUGEN characters are more than I can stand.

This is the last one that'll be backwards compatible? Where are you reading that? On the forums somewhere?

Also, what language is MUGEN programmed in, anyway?

When elecbyte first brought the site up again (was that late last year or early this year?) I'm pretty sure they said that they would release one more version of MUGEN running with all the current stuff before moving on to something that nothing from before would work with.

EDIT: As for the language. I have no freaking clue, I pretty much have to follow a tutorial every step of the way, and I still can't get it working completely the way I want it to. I'm just not good with code.

That would totally suck for people who are currently making games for MUGEN.

Not really, they're still getting one new, pretty much final version that's updated with all modern features. Then a whole new MUGEN will be developed that might allow for even more things to be done.

I think the older MUGEN would still hang on for some time even after a new one is released. This is, of course, all assuming that I'm remembering this correctly. I think it would make sense for them though. Even though I don't know much, MUGEN's architecture is probably kind of dated, and new things come out all the time that aren't compatible with old mods and add-ons, just look at Firefox.

Alas, the days when I had the time and ambition to meticulously assemble my own fighting games from materials scattered about the web have long passed. On the bright side, maybe this will mean that future premade fan packs for the program will be better. I wonder if long-running projects like Card Saga Wars will upgrade, or just continue on the track they've been going.

Speaking of which, what the hell ever happened to CSW?

Still working on it, but it's supposedly been coming along.

That's what they were saying two years ago. This has become the Duke Nukem Forever of fan-made fighting games.

Well, it turns out that the screenpacks I use, being brokenMUGEN and Everything VS Everything, don't work with this version. On the forums, they were saying that this is a bug within the program. I wonder if all screenpacks have this problem.
