So most of my childhood was spent playing Sonic 1 Sonic 2 Sonic 3 Sonic and Kunckles etc etc.. The point is Im a 17 year old boy which means I was born in 1992 and cant remember the hype much.

Anyway so tonight I watched a video on youtube about the storming of sonic the hedgehog and how Sega died And a little part of me died. when I was 8 years old my grandma gave me a sega megadrive for christmas which means this was the christmas of 2000. And I had never heard of Sonic the hedgehog to this point. Knowing how Sonic took over Mario and Nintendo and how the Saturn destroyed Sega had me a bit woah I thought it was cool knowing these facts but I noticed common merch that you would get with games nowadays so i thought Id have a look on ebay.

My childhood has been destroyed SONIC THE HEDGEHOG WAS ON EVERYTHING NO1 AT MY PRIMARY SCHOOL KNEW WHO SONIC THE HEDGEHOG WAS! AND I THOUGHT I HAD 2 LIVE WITH THESE FACTS! But with allsorts of merchandise ranging from Curtains to bedsheets to yoyo's to poster's to etc..

My point is I feel Ive missed out on a lot Ive been a big fan for many years and this has just gone over my head :( I want to aim at making the biggest Sonic collection ever wish me luck.

And sorry if your not intrested or owt I had to write this somewere and see if theres anyone else in my boat please tell me theres someone out there who feels my pain! PLEASE!

peace!

lolwut?

So you liked Sonic, but didn't know about all the stuff? There's a crapload of things you'll most likely never see, like the Sonic X-treme test disc, the old educational games, and many pieces of merchandise.

Also, Sega only beat Nintendo by a 10% margin of the market share, it didn't completely take over, and it was only for a few years.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm missing some all important truth in the world. At that point I usually grab some chips and watch the people who have apparently found it tear each other apart in the super market over the now last bag of chips...

Whoa, Sega outdid Nintendo at a point? I thought that before the Playstation, Nintendo was this juggernaut that nobody could outdo.

Yeah, the Genesis was more popular than the SNES. At least in America. I actually think they had a much larger share (like 65% or something) when Sonic 2 first came out, but all throughout the 16-bit war it was much more even with Sega barely ahead most of the time. I think overall they had approximately a 10% share lead over Nintendo when the two systems died.

Pro tip, sonicfan92: When it comes to a collection of any kind, Sonic or otherwise, the quality of the items you own is more important than their quantity. Most of the merchandise you can no longer get a hold of... well, for the most part you're not missing much. Just keep that in mind before you go broke scouring eBay for those ultra-rare Sonic bed sheets or copies of obscure Japanese Sonic-themed point-and-click adventure games.

My friend has some strange Sonic related items. He is the biggest Sonic fan I know; he has 1, 2, 3, and the Sonic and Knuckles expansion thing, as well as various bric a brac. He has some kind of strange golden plastic disk with Sonic on it that says 2 or 3 phrases. Wierd. Anyway, good luck with your collection.

Being a Sonic fan doesn't mean you have to have the biggest collection of trivial Sonic stuff you've bought off of E-Bay, just to show everyone you are a fan. The only way I've stuck as a Sonic fan is by hanging with the community, and investing time with the whole community. I try to expand and talk with everyone, and to have an open mind to what everyone likes, or dislikes, about Sonic. I work with people on projects that they have, namely fan games, and it keeps my interest peaked. :)
