Way back in the mystical nineteen eighties, there was a magazine called Heavy Metal. It was a haven for sexist comics, filled with action, stupid people, and pure awesome. Later on in the decade, someone decided to make a movie out of this golden thunderpegasus (which pissed beer), and it rocked. It's one of my personal favourite movies, even if it is rather stupid.

The movie itself consists of several sections (my fave being Den), and to give you a sample, this is one of the scenes: Captain Sternne and Hannover Fiste

The art in the scenes is inconsistent, but the movie rocks all the same (made by Canadians.) Anyone seen this gem?

OOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDD..

Heavy Metal Magazine is still in print I think. It's owned by Peter Laird of ninja turtle fame.

yeah I was forced to watch this long ago.
Seen part of heavy Metal 2000 also... but it was basically a hentai..so ...yeah...

Also Capcom had a fighting game based on it for the ol' Dreamcast.

That's what makes Heavy Metal so great, man! It's porn. With violence. It's like, everything a teenage boy could ask for! Beyond some paint to sniff, that is.

Heavy Metal was awesome. I wish more animated movies took Heavy metal's stance on alcohol and nudity.

I actually seen the magazine, but I never knew there was an animated movie based on it. Those clips weren't half bad, either.

Great animated Sci-fi/horror/fantasy anthology! i do have some issues of the famed magazine, say uh Mr. Retro do you think Taarna is quite the dish for a toon chick? she's that white haired silent warrior babe.

John Candy with Harold Ramis (Egon on "Ghostbusters") and Eugene Levy provide voices in this movie which is a plus. Do you think this movie was a big influence on "The Fifth Element"? same futuristic cab driver stuff and redhead girl including a key to destroying an evil orb from space.

They need to make mature audiences animation like this and some Japanese animation.

If you liked this one, check out the following:

"Akira".
"Ghost in The Shell".
"Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend".
"Fritz The Cat".
"Wicked City".
"Perfect Blue".
"Once Upon a Girl". (Funny but kinky X-rated animated cult comedy)
"Creepshow".
"Blade Runner".
"The Fifth Element".
"The Dark Crystal".
"Titan A.E".
"Fire and Ice".
"Rock and Rule".
"Nausicca: Valley of the Winds".
"The Nightmare Before Christmas".
"Repo The Genetic Opera".
"Heavy Traffic".
"Starchaser: Legend of Orin".
"American Pop".
"Pink Floyd The Wall".
"Sin City".
"Beowulf".
"Dead Space: Downfall".
"Ninja Scroll".
"The Professional: Golgo 13".
"South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut".
"Street Fighter II The Animated Movie".
"Team America".

Heavy Metal isn't really porn, it's soft-core stuff. If you want hardcore animated stuff that goes beyond pornography of animation then "Heavy Metal" is definitely the infamous "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend". Now that's a mindblowing mix of sex and graphic gory violence that created the hentai anime subgenre! it's got graphic scenes of rape, naughty tentacles from demons on girls, bisexuality, mutilation, eyeball ripping, exploding heads, sexual activity even with demons and every excess you can imagine.

Misread the topic title as "Metal Gear Movie". Now I'm just highly disappointed with what I see.

There's gonna be a new Heavy Metal movie coming soon which will be a reboot/revamp but more true to the awesome comic magazine. a few stories from the first movie will be redone but this will have 10 stories this time and there's different directors like David Fincher, Zack Sydner, Guillermo Del Toro, James Cameron, Rob Zombie, Gore Verbinski, and Jack Black.

Now mature audiences animation is gonna make a comeback even with Rob Zombie's animated "World of Super El Beasto" coming this fall and "Beowulf" now on DVD and Blu-Ray. But i'm telling you "Urotsukidoji" takes the cake in pornographic and sick animation, seek it out if you dare.
