Anyway, might Nickelback count? They're awesome, and I believe that most of their songs are rock.

Furthermore... Rock and Roll is the main genre, if you're gonna say that some of that other stuff is Rock, and Metal isn't, then you're wrong as well. Simply because original Rock was started in the 1950s, almost nothing sounds like Rock sounded in the original days of it's founding. Metal is a sub-genre of Mainstream Rock, as is most of the other stuff we listen to these days that has an electric guitar and drums within the mix.
...and if we wanted to get stupid, rocks can become metals over time through many different ways.
