General review to compact the important information in a single post:

There is now a PM Flood check in place. You can send one PM per minute, which I hope is adequate. If you regularly find yourself hitting the restriction please let me know and I'll see what I can do to adjust the settings. The main reason for implementing this is to limit the damage caused by spam registrations which do slip through the net.

Along with the flood check, there are several other methods now in place which look for patterns of behaviour that often suggest a user is simply PM spamming. I'm not going to disclose the details of this, and I expect to develop it further over the next few weeks.

I also want to post a general apology to the legitimate members, past and present. We're really not wanting to junk up your email inbox with PM notifications, and your PM Inbox with links to spam or links to websites containing viruses.

Why not a post limit, before you can send a PM? It doesn't make much sense that someone who just joined should need to send a PM.

I had considered this, but it then brings a question of what a fair post limit is. There are times I wanted to contact an artist on a forum, or write a PM to an admin to complain about particular content. There's also the possibility of a user experiencing issues using the site through no fault of their own and being unable to contact people regarding it.

It's a good idea, but it's another limit I worry about. I may fall back to it though.

Actually, I think a better idea is to make all the messages that are sent a copy to the original owner. It would slow down spam to a stop because it would fill the message box. this also adds the removal of space in a PM inbox. If you make it hold like 20 messages max, it would totally eliminate the spam coming from bots

Aye, same here [/gay]. Although my lack of internet has reduced me to using dodgy porn sites on my phone browser and with no flash player on my phone I'm stuck with pictures ;_;. God I miss motion porn.

I'm sorry, but that idea really doesn't make any sense and wouldn't prevent spam PMs. It would just limit everyone else and make a mess.

What's wrong with the post limit idea? The new user can post a topic to complain, or ask for help in the help and bug reports section.

It's an option I'll keep in mind, though. As originally noted, if anyone does find themselves regularly hitting the PM sending limit, do let me know. I don't really expect anyone to be sending > 60 PMs per hour but I could be wrong ;)

I think I totally know what he is suggesting! Unfortunately I think you may find that spam bots easily adapt and may well be programmed to handle PM deletion and beyond.
