Chapter 9

When he saw that Sonis and Saxon were just hurt, he turned. He saw the footprints Sonic had left behind. ‘What are we gonna do now?’ He saw the Sword of Ages on the ground. He ran and picked it up. ‘You stupid sword!’ He tried breaking it, only to find he had cut his arm. ‘Ah!’ He was about to throw the sword at a wall, but as he was about to, a note fell in his hand. It was from the older him.

‘If you wish to stop your friend and return him to normal, you must find the Sacred Dragon…’ He looked up. ‘What the Heck does that mean!’ He looked at Sonis. He could see a blistering look on his face. ‘Sonis, what is with you?’ Sonis glanced up and briskly said, ‘Nothing.’ He tried to hide his arm. Matt thought it was suspicious that Sonis was acting like this. ‘Anyway, We need to get going! Can’t let Sonic destroy a city, right?’ Sonis and Saxon agreed, and they started down the footprint path.

Matt couldn’t think straight. He pulled out the note to read it again. ‘A Sacred Dragon? I still don’t understand.’ ‘Understand what?’ Matt jumped. Sonis was right behind him. ‘Nothing… Anyway, Sonis, back at the temple or whatever it was, why did you try to hide your arm?’ Sonis became wide eyed. ‘It wasn’t a special reason. You don’t need to worry about it.’ Matt stopped. He looked at Sonis. He was wearing a long open coat. ‘Sonis, you’re hiding something, aren’t you?’ He tried to step over to Sonis, but Sonis backed away. ‘Sonis, what is your problem. Oh wait, now I understand. The Sacred Dragon. It’s like one of the videos I saw. But I don’t understand.’ He turned. Suddenly Sonis snuck up behind him. He backhanded Matt.

Matt stumbled down the path a little then fell, Sonis running by him. Sonis stopped in his tracks as a gray Hedgehog jumped from a tree. ‘I finally found you!’ ‘Crap!’ He turned, just to be caught by the hedgehog. Sonis said, ‘Zenios, why are you doing this?’ The hedgehog didn’t answer, but just stared at Matt. Matt was about to strike, but then realized that he had no weapon except… Except the Sacred Sword. He pulled it out and ran at Zenios. Zenios used his special move, Chaos Destruction!

A blaze of fire rushed around the trees. Matt threw up a barrier to defend himself, but was pushed back and burnt in the arm. He didn’t let it stop him though. He just kept rushing. Zenios tore off the jacket he was wearing, and Matt saw Dragon Marks on the hedgehog’s arms. Then he tore off Sonis’s jacket, which also revealed a Dragon Mark on his left Arm. ‘Do you see it now Matt? Do you see?’ Matt stumbled back. ‘What?’ He was in shock. He didn’t think something like this would happen. While he was shocked, he saw Zenios try to absorb Sonis, though his desperate attempt was ruined. Another hedgehog jumped from the trees and slammed Zenios into the ground.

Matt finally realized what just happened and ran over to them, only to be pushed back yet again, but this time by the brown hedgehog. The mysterious hedgehog said, ‘Chaos…’ ‘Wait!’, Matt yelled. ‘Who are you?’ The hedgehog replied, ‘Necrius. Necrius the Hedgehog!’ Necrius turned only to find Zenios had taken his arm in his hand, and threw him across the empty space and into Matt. They fell to the ground. ‘I think you don’t remember who I am Necrius.’ ‘I do. I do very much, you think I could forget? You killed our family!’ Necrius looked down. He looked up again. ‘But unfortunately for you, I survived.’ Zenios growled at that thought, and rushed over to Necrius. He knocked him down, along with Saxon and Matt, then disappeared.

Chapter 10

Matt, Saxon, and Necrius set up a camp. Matt was sitting by the fire, Necrius was in his tent, and Saxon was watching for something to eat. Matt got up, and walked into Necrius’s tent. ‘Necrius, could you tell me about what happened to your family?’ Necrius stared at Matt. ‘Why not? Sit down Matt.’ Matt did, and Necrius pulled off his red long open jacked. ‘That gray hedgehog you saw, he’s my brother. He is the one who killed our parents, sister, and I thought our hidden brothers. But know I now one is still alive.’ ‘Sonis?’ ‘Yes, but there is still one more. The one with the other Dragon Mark.’ ‘Do you have one?’ ‘No, unfortunately, I didn’t inheret Dragon power. But that changed when Zenios tried to kill me.’

Matt looked blankly at the wall. ‘Who could kill his/her own parents and try to kill his/her brother and sister. That’s just weak.’, Matt thought. He snapped out of it quickly though, as he saw Necrius staring at him. ‘Anyway, at the end, I cut his arm and absorbed some of his DNA, or his blood. I gained some Dragon power, and now I’ve been trying to kill him for what he done.’

Matt looked at him. He gave thanks to Necrius, and walked out of the tent. Necrius blew out the lamp he had lit, and went to sleep. Matt walked over to Saxon. ‘Few stars tonight huh?’ Saxon replied ‘Yeah.’ Matt turned toward the camp. ‘Think we’ll get Sonis back, and Sonic?’ ‘Of course we will. What made you think we won’t?’ ‘You saw what happened. Zenios has two Dragon Marks, which can’t be good. He must be full of power!’ ‘Well, Sonis has one too, let’s not forget.’ ‘I just can’t believe this happened to us.’ Saxon turned around toward the woods. ‘I’ve gotta leave tomorrow. I can’t stay here.’

Matt jumped at the words. ‘What do you mean?’ ‘This is your fight, not mine. I can’t stay to help you.’ Matt nodded. He partially agreed with the fact that, yes, it wasn’t his fight. Then the thought popped into his head. ‘Wait, but I thought you were one of Sonic’s Secret Brothers He never knew of? Doesn’t that make you eligible to help him?’ ‘No.’ Matt stared at him. ‘Fine, then you can leave tomorrow at sunrise.’ Saxon nodded, and they all went to sleep.
The next morning when they awoke, Saxon wasn’t there. Matt went to pack up the tents, only to find there was a small necklace with a note. ‘Matt, thanks for taking care of me for the past few days. This necklace is the only thing I have to repay you. I hope it’s enough. Bye, Saxon.’

Matt smiled. ‘It is enough, Saxon. I hope you do well out there.’ He pushed the necklace into his pocket. After everything was packed up, Matt and Necrius took off down the path. ‘Sonic must be a long ways away. Problem is though, we need the Sacred Dragon…’ ‘We’ll get it and save him.’ ‘Yeah, I guess we will.’

Chapter 11

As Necrius and Matt walked down the path, they started talking to each other. ‘You know, I never really realized how powerful that sword would be!’ Matt looked at him. ‘Wait, you knew about the sword?’ ‘Sure did. All these rumors were floating by about how the SS sent someone out to find it. I thought it was nonsense at first, but then I saw you and Sonic leave the town.’ ‘You saw us leave?’ Necrius nodded.

Matt looked at the road path. ‘I can remember when I inherited my powers. Never knew I had them until I was six or eight. Since then, I’ve been building up the towns and villages, doing funky quests for the SS, and whatever else!’ Necrius laughed. Matt glanced at him. ‘What’s so funny?’ ‘Nothing, nothing.’ They continued down the path.
‘Do you think Sonis is anywhere around here?’ ‘He has to be! My brother wouldn’t be able to escape that far! I think he may be in the next village.’ ‘That sounds assuring..’ They laughed together. Matt started to cough. ‘Sick Matt?’ Matt nodded in disagreement. ‘No, I think it’s just the dust flying around here.’ Necrius looked up. He saw the next village. ‘Look, there it is!’ Matt nodded, and fell unconscious.

Necrius looked at Matt on the ground. ‘No…’ He picked up Matt, and started running into the next village. When he got there, the first thing he saw was a tavern. He walked in, got two rooms, and took Matt into the room he registered. He tossed Matt on the bed. He looked at the blank face on Matt. His eyes were closed, lips sealed. It almost looked like he was dead.

Necrius looked into the mirror. ‘I can’t believe it happened. But how? He had a barrier.’ Necrius looked him over one last time, and saw the burn on Matt’s arm. ‘That’s how…’ Necrius examined the burn for a few more minutes, then went into his room and went to sleep.

Matt woke up on the bed. He sat up, only to see a mirror with his face on it. He got off the bed, and saw a key on his table, along with a note. ‘Matt, I registered this room for you. It’s now yours. I also left a key to my room, so when you’re awake, you can come get me. When you do, we will continue our journey.’ Matt took the keys, placed them in his pocket, and went out of the room.

Matt looked down the hall. He saw a door with the name ‘Necrius’ put on it. He walked over to the door, placed the key in, and opened it. When he walked into the room he saw Necrius lying on the bed watching some television. Matt said, ‘Hey Necrius.’ Necrius turned off the t.v. and glanced over at Matt. ‘I’m guessing you wanna know what happened?’ Matt nodded. ‘Well, you fell out after coughing a few times. We were right at the town’s entrance. Anyway, I brought you here, got us rooms, and went to sleep.’ Matt nodded, and pulled his shirt sleeve up. ‘Well, guess the burn is disappearing.’
Necrius interrupted his train of thought. ‘Do you want to continue on, or wait a day or two?’ ‘Let’s wait, I think we need time to relax.’ Necrius nodded. ‘Well, you go do what you want to. I’m going to sit here and watch the television till I knock out!’

Matt chuckled and left the tavern. ‘Well, what to do, what to do….’ He looked around. Then he remembered the necklace Saxon
had left him. ‘I guess I could gather some information.’ He decided that was what he was gonna do, and rushed off.
When he got tired, he went back to the tavern. He walked into Necrius’s room, and told him about all the information he gathered. ‘Someone said they saw a gray hedgehog carrying a light blue hedgehog.’ ‘Then that must be my brother and Sonis.’ Matt nodded. ‘Someone else told me there is a building not far from here, and that he was carrying the other to the building.’ ‘This is great. We know where Sonis and my brother is, and we can get them tomorrow. Now, let’s get some sleep.

You must be tired from all that hunting.’ Matt nodded in agreement. He went to his room and went to sleep.
Suddenly Matt woke up to the sound of Necrius’s voice. ‘Matt, get up! Now!’ Matt felt a burning sensation on his face. He
jumped off the bed. ‘About time.’ ‘We going after Sonis and Zenios?’ ‘Yeah!’, Necrius replied with excitement. Now, hurry up. We gotta leave soon.’ Matt nodded, and got ready. Matt and Necrius took off out of the tavern.

‘Look, there’s the building!’ Matt pointed to an old brick house. Necrius saw it and ran into it. Matt followed. ‘Zenios, stop!’ Matt turned. ‘Hear that. It’s the echo of a voice.’ ‘It’s Sonis’s Matt.’ Matt ran up the stairs. He stopped midway and peaked. He saw Sonis tied up, and Zenios across the room from him. ‘Come on in Matt.’ Matt got a chill running down his spine. How did the guy know he was there. He walked up the rest of the way. ‘What are you doing?’ ‘Trying to kill you!’ Zenios lunged at Matt with a knife. Matt jumped out of the way.

‘Necrius!’ Necrius ran up the stairs. ‘Zenios.’ ‘Brother.’ Zenios lunged again, not at Matt, but at Necrius. Necrius didn’t have enough time to dodge, and was cut in the arm. ‘Agh.’ Necrius jumped away from Zenios. ‘Matt, get Sonis! I’ll fend off my brother!’ Matt nodded, and ran to get Sonis untied. He was stopped by Zenios, who slashed the small knife and cut Matt’s leg open. Matt was sent kneeling to the ground.

Matt tried to get up, only to be hit by the knife yet again. Necrius saw Zenios powering up his knife for a kill, and jumped toward Matt. He grabbed him, and as Zenios slashed, jumped them to safety. ‘You ok?’ ‘Yeah, just get your brother!’ Necrius nodded, and lunged toward Zenios. ‘Stop this now, and you’ll be forgiven.’ ‘I don’t want to stop. I want you dead Necrius! You hear me, DEAD!!’ Zenios slashed constantly at Necrius, and multiple cuts were applied.

Matt was watching the fight, and finally saw Sonis. He was also watching the drama, and was struggling himself free. Matt stood up, and started to creep his way over to Sonis. When he finally got to Sonis, he untied him. ‘Sonis, Are you ok?’ ‘Yeah. Do you want me to help him?’ ‘I don’t know. Are you up to it?’ Sonis nodded and ran over to Zenios. He slammed him through the floor. ‘That’s for tying me up!’ Matt went over to the hole in the floor. He was limping like a hurt dog.

Necrius said, ‘He’s unconscious, but only for a few minutes. We better leave.’ Sonis handed Matt a stick. ‘You should use this until we can get your leg fixed up.’

Matt took the stick, and they all ran down the stairs of the building and out the door. Unfortunately, Zenios had awoken as Necrius was at the door and grabbed him. ‘You think you can escape!?’ ‘Yep.’, Necrius replied, backhanding Zenios. Zenios fell to the ground unconscious. Necrius ran out of the building, chasing after Sonis and Matt.

Chapter 12

When they had escaped to a safe distance, they headed back toward the tavern. Then they were going to wait until Zenios had left the village. When they got there, Sonis and Necrius took the First Aid kit and tried to fix up Matt’s leg. Even though he put up a desperate fight, trying to keep them away, it eventually got done. Matt sat down on the bed beside Necrius. ‘You did pretty good back there.’ ‘Thanks…’ ‘Still depressed?’ ‘Yes…’ ‘Well, I could think of something…’ Matt took out Zenios’s knife. ‘Would this help much?’ He handed it to Necrius. Necrius saw the knife and was surprised. ‘How did you…’ ‘I took it while he was unconscious. It’s a long story on how I did it…’

Necrius smiled. ‘Thank you…’ Matt nodded. He walked over to the window, his leg still hurting. He looked out of it, and saw Sonis walk in the building. ‘My arm still hurts you know…’ ‘What?’ ‘The burn.’ ‘Oh, that. You’ll be fine, you heard what the doctor said.’ Necrius said in sarcasm. ‘Is there something you know that I don’t?’ This sparked Necrius. Necrius’s only words were, ‘Trust me.’ Matt nodded, and didn’t pursue this question any further. He would wait until later. Matt walked to the door. ‘You know, tomorrow we have to leave in pursue of Sonic…’ Necrius agreed. Matt walked out of the room. Sonis was walking down the hall just as he closed the door. Sonis stopped near Matt.

‘How did it go?’ Matt replied sternly, ‘Pretty good… Wasn’t what I thought it would be though…’ Sonis grinned. ‘Are we going to go after Sonic?’ ‘Yeah, but not today. A lot happened.’ Sonis agreed, and they both went to their rooms. They wasted the day by watching television. When the next day came, Matt woke up. He walked over to the mirror for a quick recap. ‘Ok, the Zenios ordeal is done, now for the Sonic one…’ He walked out of the room. He went into Necrius and Sonis’s rooms, waking them both up. ‘Come on, we gotta find Sonic!’ The words made them get up, and they started through town.

When they left the village, Sonis looked at Matt. ‘Hey, Matt. Sorry about not telling you about the Dragon Mark on my arm…’ ‘Don’t worry about it.’ Sonis nodded. ‘Hehehehe.’ Matt stopped. ‘Wait.’ Sonis and Necrius turned to see Matt. ‘Who’s there!?’ Matt questioned. Zenios came out from hiding. ‘You sure are clever, Matt, but the problem is, are you able to stop me!’, Zenios said as he lunged at Matt with a new knife.
Matt tried to dodge, but Zenios was too fast and cut Matt’s arm. Zenios also lunged at Sonis, but he was able to dodge the knife, but not the blow after. It sent him to the ground. Before Zenios lunged at Necrius, Matt grabbed him. ‘Pathetic.’, Zenios said as he knocked Matt unconscious. He looked at Necrius. ‘You thought you could escape.’ Zenios’s Dragon Marks started to glow red.

Necrius felt a burning sensation. Then it hit him. ‘Agh!’, he yelled, kneeling to the ground. He looked at Sonis, who’s Dragon Mark was also burning. ‘We are the three you fool. Why are you trying to hide it. You can feel the dragon trying to take you over, so give in!’ Zenios shifted from his hedgehog state into a dragon. ‘Give In!!’ Necrius screamed in pain. The Dragon Mark was glowing a very crisp red, and then it happened. Necrius started to transform. ‘No.. No.. NO!’ He yelled out as he had finally completed his transformation. Sonis had the same. He turned into a dragon form. Matt woke up. ‘What happened…’, he said looking around. He saw the scene in front of him; three mysterious figures surrounding each other. One was silver, one hash-brown, and the other a color like sky blue. Then he remembered. He shook himself awake, and got up. He thought, ‘Now’s the time, Necrius. Here is your time for revenge.’

Then he thought about Sonis. The dragon form standing front-ways of him turned. ‘Matt…’ ‘No time, just come over here before something happens. Now!’ Sonis understood the comment, and tried rushing to Matt’s side, but was stopped by an invisible wall. Zenios grinned. ‘See, brother… DO YOU SEE! Look at yourself, your full of power. But you had to use it for good… No matter, I’ll strip you of your power, I’ll grow stronger, and then destroy the planet. YOU’LL BE DEAD, AND EVERYTHING ELSE!’ Necrius growled. He lunged for Zenios, grabbed him, and started to shake him.

‘Why, brother… Why…’ Zenios scowled. He took Necrius’s arm and threw him across the field, and into the invisible wall. Necrius coughed in pain, losing precious air by the second. ‘Why…’ He said. ‘Why…’ He fell unconscious. Matt saw the damage done, and tried to jump into the barrier withholding the three hedgehogs, or now, dragons. His first attempt resulted in an imminent shock. The next attempt resulted in a higher shock, and finally, the third attempt was successful. He ran over to Zenios, backhanded him, then jumped back. The gray dragon fell to the ground, writhing in pain, but eventually fell unconscious. The invisible barrier disappeared. Matt looked at Sonis. The dragon turned back to his original form, as so did Necrius and Zenios. Necrius woke up.

Matt and Sonis ran over to him, and helped him up. ‘Are you ok?’ Necrius smiled, and spat out some blood. He was hurt, and seriously. ‘Let’s take him back to the inn. We can’t leave on these conditions.’ Sonis agreed, and they headed toward the inn.
Sonic woke up. He was in a strange town. ‘Oh, my head.’ He looked at his hand. It was covered in blood. Then he looked around, where he saw many bodies scattered. ‘I did this, didn’t I?’ ‘Why…’, came the reply. Sonic turned. No one was there. ‘Why…’ Sonic stood up. He ran throughout the village, looking for anyone who was still alive. He found one person crying. ‘Why… Why…’
‘Hey, are you ok?’ The child looked up. ‘Thank goodness, someone is here to help!’ The child jumped up and hugged Sonic. ‘We need to find an adult who’ll take care of you. Come on, follow me.’, Sonic said, smiling. The child nodded, and started to follow him.

‘Who is the parent of this child? They must probably be dead, from what I saw back there.’ He looked at his hand. The blood had dried to the glove. He looked at the child. ‘Well, at least he’ll be safe.’ Then it happened. Eggman appeared out of nowhere in his floating vehicle, and snatched the kid from the ground. ‘Hehehe! Oh Sonic, such a fool! Hohoho!’ Eggman flew away before Sonic said anything.
Sonic growled. ‘How could this happen!’ Sonic slammed his hand into a tree, and he started to feel weird. He was transforming, and before he knew it, he was in a dragon state. ‘I… I feel rage, the thirst for revenge… I…’ Then it occurred. He saw a lone wolf appear in front of him. He almost smashed it to pieces, had it not been he was conscious. ‘What’s going on with me.’ He made the wolf go somewhere else than where he was, and he started down the path.

Unfortunately, the wolf was followed him. Sonic had an impression. ‘Are you following me?’ He said and the wolf jumped up an inch or two. Sonic turned. The wolf stared at him, and growled. The wolf jumped at Sonic, and as Sonic threw his arms up to block the wolf, he quickly realized nothing happened. He turned to see the wolf pounced on a person. It was Matt. ‘Hey, what is going on! Get this thing off me!’ Sonic quickly thought of a way to get the wolf’s attention.

Sonic whistled, and the wolf quickly obeyed. It walked back over to him, and sat down. Matt got up. Sonic transformed back into his regular self. ‘Sonic!’, Matt stumbled the word. ‘Hey…’ Sonis and Necrius stared. ‘Well hey to you two too…’ They both replied, ‘Hey.’ Matt stared at that wolf. ‘Hey, I’ve seen one of those before…’ Matt pondered the question. Then he continued,‘It’s a MTF Wolf, it has powers and shares them with the owner. They also wait for the right owner.’ Sonic looked at the lone wolf. ‘So, you have powers…’ The wolf happily let his tongue hang in agreement.

‘I guess this wolf chose you for an owner, eh Sonic.’, Matt said. ‘I guess so.’ ‘Well, what are you going to name…’ ‘The wolf rolled over, quickly letting Matt know it was female. ‘Her…’, came the word. Sonic pondered through his mind. ‘How about Ember?’ The wolf jumped in joy. ‘You like that name, don’t you…’ The wolf barked. ‘Well Sonic, now you have an ally. Anyway, I’m going to give you some information on those things while we continue the journey.’
‘No, not another lesson.’ Sonic said while smirking. Everyone laughed. ‘Anyway, shall we continue our journey?’ Everyone nodded, and they went on throughout the rest of the forest.

When they reached a suitable place for camp, Sonic asked Matt many questions, most about his new MTF Wolf. ‘So, this wolf can transform, and also merge with me as a transformation?’, Sonic said while petting his new fond friend. ‘Pretty much Sonic.’ ‘And it picked me as an owner?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘What about…’ Matt interrupted, ‘Sonic, I understand you have questions, but I told you the information. It’s all correct, now could you help set up this tent?’ Sonic snarled a little, but helped anyway. ‘Eggman kidnapped someone.’ ‘Who?’ ‘It was a lonely child in this village I woke up in… Right in the middle of the forest before I met this wolf. He just swooped in and took the child.’ Matt was surprised. ‘I’m guessing you want to go save him/her?’ Sonic nodded. ‘Ok, we can do it tomorrow. It’s almost nighttime.’ Sonic nodded again. He went to his tent, the wolf trotting by his side. Matt watched them leave, and smiled. ‘I’m happy for you Sonic.’ He entered his tent.
