Well if they went back to being rivals sonic wounld get his ass handed to him,I mean he's getting better but he's still no compition for mario.

WELL... another issue, (IF logic is seriously gonna be applied here) how do we gauge who has what better ability? The games are so different... obviously, Mario has jumps on Sonic, but he is blatantly faster...

Not to mention spinning attacks and a potential Super form.
And if you feel like getting really technical and whatnot, Sonic also has several jumps, kicks, and diving attacks whilst Mario has throws and a hammer...
And I'm sure there's plenty of other things, too.

Fireball's, pet dinosaur with the ability to digest anything, flight, invisibility, invincibility (through several vastly different methods), a water squirt gun, a water jet pack (both take off and hovering), a water propulsion system that allows him to move fast enough to run on top of the surface of the ocean/other bodies of water, and several powerful jumps, kicks, punches, ground pounds, and horizontal spin attacks.

Like I said before, over the course of their games, Mario has obtained way more abilities. Before throwing out the fact that Sonic can go Super/Hyper, remember that Mario can also become invulnerable. Hell, with two of his abilities, Sonic would go right through him making his speed completely pointless...

See guys? That's not even half of his abilities, either. I wouldn't really list Yoshi as a power-up, since Yoshi is its own character...

Also, I love how a lot of the ones you listed were from Sunshine...

These are the only 2 posts on this thread that actually make sense or have any meaning to them. Anyway I think the reasons blatantly obvious, money. They cashed in on the 08 olympics and now they're doing the winter olympics, get over it.
