Okay, so I'm taking Honors English this year, which is like the ninth grade advanced placement, and our teacher gave us a list of books. We need to read at least one of these books each semester, and I was looking for opinions on any good ones. Here's the list:
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingslover
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Robinson Crueso by Daniel Defoe
My Antonia by Willa Cather
Ender's Game by Orson Card
All Things Bright and Beautiful by James Herriot
Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anya
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
Animal Farm by George Orwell
A Seperate Peace by John Knowles
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Fahrenheight 451 by Ray Bradbury
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain
If you've read any of these, I'd love an opinion on which ones are the best. I wanted to start with Ender's Game, but I haven't found it yet.

Those are all good choices, and I'm sure the others aren't terrible, either.

Thanks much. =] But I don't think I'll be going with The Count of Monte Cristo, becuase it's like, a bazillion pages long, and we're not allowed to read the abridged verison of any of these books.

What do you mean you're not allowed to read the abridged version? How would your teacher find out? The last book related project I did I got an A on and I didn't even read the book. You have plenty of resources short of actually doing you assignment.

DO YOU EVEN READ A WORD PAST THE TITLE???
Anyways..., I have read Kidnapped, the Time Machine, and Oliver Twist
(all unabridged). My favorite was kidnapped by far.
EDIT: The Time-machine was pretty good too...
