I'll start off posting a few chapters over the course of the day, and if some of you enjoy it, I'll continue posting the rest.

Chapter 1: Fusion of Light and Shadow
It was a dark night, the crescent moon shining overhead dimly, small clouds obscuring the stars. Alarms were sounding, sirens were wailing as activity stirred at Eggman’s base. The maniacal doctor was in a room somewhere in the large misshapen base. He had locked himself in a room no larger than a standard high school gymnasium. The walls were plastered with technological computer devices and monitors. In the center of the room was a large mechanical pillar. Circling the pillar was seven clear chambers, six of them containing gems that glowed ever so brightly. A flashing red light stood above a monitor on the eastern wall.
“That meddlesome hedgehog always ruins my plans,” the doctor cackled in an evil tone. “Well, let him come. I think he’ll find he’s a bit out of his league with this one.”
With that, the large, round man held out a blue diamond-shaped emerald and placed it in the unoccupied chamber. Upon being placed inside, it too began to shine. No sooner than the task had been completed, a large metallic door was unhinged and slammed into the wall at the opposite end by some force. Emerging from the entrance was a blue hedgehog that walked on two legs, wore red specially designed shoes with a white stripe across the top, and white gloves. He was about 3 feet tall, had green eyes, and the muzzle, arms, and chest section of his fur had a human tone to it.
He stared at the bald-headed man with a frizzy mustache that was at least ¾ of a foot in length. The man wore a red long-sleeved jacked, a white zipper and stripe down both arms positioned on it, along with four golden buttons and several white dots. His pants were long, black-colored with shoes to match. Other noticeable features were his white gloves and round blue glasses that prevented the ability to see his eyes.
“All right, Eggman, this ends now!” the hedgehog shouted.
“Really now, Sonic,” Eggman replied. “How can it end if you don’t even know what I’m planning?”
“I know plenty,” Sonic assured. “The fact that you are trying to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds to use your new weapon to force the capital cities of the planet into surrender is more than enough information!”
The doctor couldn’t help but give a chuckle at the hedgehog’s summary of his plans.
“Sonic, Sonic, Sonic,” Eggman said, shaking his head back and forth in a disappointed manner. “You don’t even know the half of it.”
“Big deal! What are you going to do, explain it to me?” Sonic replied jokingly.
“As a matter of fact, I think I will,” Eggman informed. Sonic couldn’t help but want to hear what plan the doctor had come up with, causing him to relax a bit. Finally the doctor began his explanation. “As you are well aware, there are two types of energy that reside within the Chaos Emeralds. One of which is the positive energy, or the energy you use when you transform into ‘Super’ Sonic or use Chaos Control. The other is the negative energy, or the energy used for all other purposes. Now, these two energies, although they exist together, cannot be used at the exact same moment in time. The power would be unstable. It’s like light and shadow, both cancel the other out, exist together. Yet, they cannot be combined.”
“I understand that, but what does all of this have to with your plan?” Sonic wondered.
“Use your head, dear lad! If these two energies could be combined the power would be greater than anything this world has ever seen. Imagine your ‘super’ form, but with ten times the amount of power!” Eggman explained.
Sonic closed his eyes and gave a small snicker. Eggman was curious at Sonic’s actions, surely he had realized the plan.
“So, you’ve figured out a way to combine these energies then?” Sonic questioned.
“Yes, and it’s quite stable,” Eggman answered, sounding quite confident with his work.
“If you were to ask me,” Sonic replied, still snickering. “I’d say you can’t contain that amount of power and energy to control properly.”
“Well then, my cocky little friend… Let’s find out if you’re right!” Eggman exclaimed, pressing the button on a nearby computer panel.
Sonic watched as the emeralds began to glow even brighter as light traveled up the pillar. Surely Eggman had a robot hiding in the corner to attack if he tried to intervene, but he could handle it. Still, Sonic couldn’t help but suddenly begin to shake violently.
“I’m positive that Eggman can’t control that amount of power, knowing how hard it is for me to control my power as Super Sonic,” Sonic told himself. Sonic continued to watch the machine, focussing more on the emeralds themselves. “So, why do I feel so uneasy about this?”
“Energy at 60% and increasing smoothly,” boasted Eggman triumphantly. It was then that Sonic noticed something odd about the Chaos Emeralds. The two energies were mixing, perfectly in fact, but the emeralds were starting to crack.
“No!” Sonic gasped. “I was wrong! It’s not the container for the energy that’s not big enough, it’s the emeralds! They aren’t used to this kind of strain!”
Eggman didn’t seem to notice. The energy was already at 90% and climbing fast with every second.
“Eggman, you fool! Stop now!” Sonic cried out.
“Too late for that!” laughed Eggman.
“That’s not what I mean! The emeralds, they…!” Sonic shouted, his voice being cut off by the cannon above the building preparing to fire at the city nearly 50 miles in the distance.
Eggman finally realized something was wrong, seeing the emeralds crack. He quickly hit the “Abort” button located next to the ignition button, but it was too late. The cannon was just about to fire, but the emeralds themselves gave way, releasing an aura of energy that knocked both Sonic and Eggman against the wall. The cannon collapsed on itself, resulting in an explosion that sent both of them flying in opposite directions, destroying the base in the process.
Sonic’s body fell among the rubble of scattered machine and building parts, his belly towards the ground. He was covered in bruises, body aching all over. He looked in front of him as he saw the seven Chaos Emeralds once again rise into the air, as they usually did, to scatter. This time, however, something different happened.
Upon reaching the point in the sky, Sonic swore he saw the emeralds shatter into thousands of pieces. Yet, the shape of the emeralds remained, and no glass fell to the ground. Sonic observed the scene as seven black lights scattered across the land, filling Sonic with dread.
“What is this feeling?” he asked himself, shaking as if he had been put in the middle of a snowstorm. “I don't know why, but I have a bad feeling about all of this.”
Sonic’s vision went blurry as he reached out to try and push himself up. Why had he been so stupid as to not try and stop Eggman when he had the chance? All went black and soon faded as he toppled over, his eyes closed and body completely worn out. Everything in the world was calm as it should be, yet Sonic still felt completely uneasy about everything. Something was wrong, or would be wrong in the near future, and it would be his fault.
