I was a bit sick for a couple of days, and so just to pass the time, I decided to check out the Showtime series Dexter with Netflix's instant watch thing. On my laptop, just lying in bed.

Well, the first few episodes piqued my interest; by the fifth episode, I was hooked; and the last couple of season one eps blew me away. I'm usually pretty good at guessing the twists in crime/detective/forensics shows, but I said "Holy shit!" out loud quite a few times. This show blows my mind. Right now, I'm five episodes into season two, and still loving it.

For those not familiar with the series, Dexter is a show about a man who works for the Miami Metro PD as a lab tech, specifically in blood spatter analysis. He appears to be an affable but boring man, but underneath he is just a shell, with no feelings about anything and a strong desire to kill. He knows he is this way for a reason, but he's not sure exactly why. His now-deceased adopted father, a cop who was aware of this problem since Dexter was a boy, sets him on a mission to control his murderous urges by only killing those who deserve it -- usually murderers who got away with it, were underpunished, and/or are likely to kill again.

Dexter researches and tails people for days or weeks to be certain they deserve to die before moving in for the kill. Dexter also uses what his father taught him along with his forensics knowledge to make sure he does not leave a single clue at his crime scenes, and he disposes of the bodies very discreetly.

He has an adopted sister, who also works for Metro PD, and a girlfriend, whom he began dating in order to keep up the appearance of being normal. There are also some interesting characters Dexter works with to round out the cast.

So anyway, just posting this to see if anyone else watches. It sure got me hooked fast.

I've always wanted to check this series out, but alas, I don't have Showtime...

I've never heard of this before, but it sounds very interesting. Crime/detective dramas are quite popular right now, so naturally each new show has to have its own hook to mix things up a bit. This series certainly sounds like it has a good one, and if the writing is solid and the cast is decent, I might check it out... I don't get Showtime either, unfortunately, but I imagine this will come to DVD sooner or later. That'd actually be good for me, because then I rent it and use it as an excuse to get out of renting LOST, which three separate people have been bugging me to watch for some time now.

I'm really getting tired of these kinds of shows, but this one might just change my opinion.
This reminds a lot of this one movie series where this guy's wife was raped and killed so he goes killing a bunch of murders. Wish I coul remember the name.

FYI season one is out on DVD, and it's airing (edited) on CBS Sundays at 10/9c (though you kinda have to watch from the beginning).

Edit: Kenn, I think you're thinking of Death Wish.

This sound pretty interesting. I might go search the net just to see these first few episodes to see if I'll become hooked as well.

I think I found the first season of the show, legally, for free, if you download some shit called "FanFare." No idea how it works or anything, but for those interested, there you go.

I might still be the only one on the forums who has seen this show, but just in case, here's some parts of the script for the first episode in season three. I'm not going to read it myself because I want to be surprised and already blew one twist accidentally, but if you're someone who doesn't care about spoilers, here you go: http://spoilertv.blo...her-script.html

Season three should start airing in late September.

I liked the show, but I haven't watched it in awhile. I think the last episode I watch was when Dexter confronted his brother in the house...

Anyone care to enlighten me on what all I've missed? ._.

You missed season two and two episodes of season three. You should really just watch them. A lot happened.

Yeah, that's not something you want to just hear about from someone else. A shitload happened.

I'm loving the new season, by the way. B)

The programme Dexter sounds like one interesting film but I have never watched it before because I am trying to solve the mystery of Sonic chronicles Dexters true identity.

Yeah, it was a really good one. Once this season is over I'm gonna miss the show until next season. It's really good.
