Has anyone seen PotC3 yet? I am just waiting to see rave reviews by teenage girls who have nothing better to do than drool over Orlando Bloom, or talk about how amazingly sexy Captain Jack Sparrow is. Sure, he is vaguely charming with his drunken mannerisms in the first film but more of the same won't really sell to me.

Love him or hate him, Johnny Depp is a great actor. You just have to look at Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat, or even Finding Neverland to see he can take on a wide array of roles. But the last two "Pirates" films seem to have placed all hopes on the strength of his acting and "lovable" character to be able to pull the films through. It's just not enough.

There's a lot of deadwood in the story line. Too many individual plots to follow, as well as the writers trying to fill us in on things which are basically irrelevant. And further, it seems entirely back to front. Imagine Lord of the Rings telling you about the "One Ring" in the final few chapters? You'd just be staring at the book in disbelief. Yet for me, this is how the film feels.

You have to hand it to the director though - we really are all suckers to see two sequels giving us only overboard fantasy, and a lot of the same old we saw in the first film. It's a shame, they could have made far more of these films.

I don't know why, but I never really wanted to go see any of those movies.

Haven't seen any of them!

My Epic In-Depth Review of the movie is coming later tonight, but for now I'll just say that while I agree the film had some problems, I thought it was still a very entertaining movie. I honestly enjoyed myself, and left the theater with a feeling of satisfaction... Which is more than I can say for Spiderman 3.

Hey, Spider Man 3 was alright. Not gold, but it was good enough to keep me interested throughout the movie.

I say the same as TOG. Tell it without a spoiler tag and die.

And I thought Spiderman 3 was alright, nothing spectacular though.

I'm not going to see it ever, unless someone pirates it. Pirating a movie about Pirates....
Instead I'll play the Monkey Island games because VGcats says the Pirates movies are based of them, somewhat. I mean who would think Disney or anyone can come up with an original story?

It's already been pirated, and I think the ride at Disney probably existed before Monkey Island. It's been around a looong time. But we don't really believe VGcats anyway, right? Anyway, it's just bad bad bad in my view.

Personally, I feel the exact opposite of MoA. I left Spider-Man 3 very satisfied. Pirates 3... blah.

I felt like Pirates 2&3 were extemely lacking in everything but special effects. They could have made some very good movies, but instead, just like a lot of sequels today, they made what looked like sombody's fanfic. I'm not saying they weren't good movies, I'm just saying that they didn't live up to the standard that Pirates 1 set.

I think they tried to do what the Matrix trilogy did and boost sales with an inconclusive sequel. The only reason anyone would go see this movie is if they've seen Pirates 2 and if you were smart enough to wait for he reviews, you knew not to go see it (I am in a family of Depp fans, so I had no choice in the matter). Yeah, I though it was dumb when the Wachowski bros did that too. Now I want to beat Gore Verbinski.

All I'm saying is that they could have done a MUCH better job.

I have come to the conclusion that everyone's just gonna be pissy about sequels. So, with that in mind, the opinions of others, ESPECIALLY critics, should be completely disregarded regarding sequels. Find one or two people whose opinions you can trust, and stick with them. Fuck the rest of y'all.

You're right, most people expect way too much from a sequel. It's not a new concept by the second movie, which partly kills off the fresh "Wow" factor from seeing the first. Leaves a mammoth task for directors. But I like to think I'm pretty fair on judgment anyway. I like the second matrix film best out of the three. Same goes for Lord of the Rings but it had a better script to base itself from. As for PoTC2 and 3? Well, I gave my thoughts. People throw a lot of money at films for great FX, but I'd love to actually see some great script writing taking place rather than things which feel like they were thought up as they went along.

Good point Req, but you can't really use LOTR as a comparison to the other ones seeing as that entire series is one whole story while the other are one short story followed by another story that is so long that it takes two movies to tell it.

I already gave my opinion about PotC 2&3 and I stick by it. I know that sequels are a big job, but the should still be done well enough to appease the fans.

I thought Dead Man's Chest was alright, but this movie really brought back the series. I agree with everything this man says.
